Runner's High

It’s a thing - the release of endorphins when you exercise. These natural peptide chemicals produced in your body interact with receptors in your brain to help you feel focused & sharp, less stressed & anxious, more energised or sleepy (depending on the time of day), less bothered by pain & HAPPIER.

Endorphins promote a sort of bliss & provide a sense of wellbeing. Neurotransmitters are responsible for releasing endorphins into our body - neurotransmitters are mostly made from the nutrients we eat - amino acids (from protein), vitamins, fatty acids (from healthy fats) & minerals.

You can increase endorphins & feel-good chemicals naturally by:

1. Regular exercise
2. Eating a varied whole foods plant-based diet
(may include small portions of good quality animal protein)
3. Limit processed food & caffeine
4. A glass of wine with friends (too much alcohol causes the opposite effect)
5. Laugh more
6. Connecting with others - as with the other happy hormones -
touch, massage, community, volunteering, purpose & passion
7. Learn something new
8. Essential oils
9. Nature
10. Sunshine
